Purpose of the position:

The jobholder is part of the PT Weda Bay Geology team in order to :

  • Demonstrate personal commitment to good Safety and Environmental practices.
  • Apply analytical, statistical and programming skills to manage large data sets, including maintaining a high quality of data integrity at all stages of the acquisition, validation and storage phases ;
  • Develop data driven solutions explicity tailored towards the needs of the Company, including collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams ;
  • Learn and master new technologies and techniques, including the application of machine learning.

Responsibilities:

Scope : Weda Bay Nickel (Company) is a JV between Tsingshan (majority shareholder) and Eramet, as well as PT Antam (10%). The Company is building road and infrastructure and operating a mining concession (Contract Of Work) for a minimum 15 Mwmt/y of Ni ore (up to 60 Mwmt/y), while operating a 30kt Ni contained NPI plant. Total investment for these operations is valued at 525M$. The total workforce in the mining project will be between 7 000 to 9 000 persons, including contractors.

As a data programmer analyst, you will have as missions:

  • Undertakes geological data collection, integration, validation and analysis.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of data collection techniques/management and develops innovative improvements.
  • Integrates historical data and ongoing data to develop and administer the geological database (acQuire) to provide a “single source of truth”
  • Configures acQuire to meet ongoing business needs, company specific standards and workflows.
  • Automates data validation and other processes;
  • Develops web based applications for field data collection and interfaces with databases;
  • Collaborates with engineering, safety and environmental teams to improve data acquisition and management processes;
  • Collaborates with IT and external laboratory to develop a Laboratory Information Management System and interface with the geological database;
  • Supports the Resource Geology team in Python programming of geostatistical, estimation and post-processing functions and workflows implemented within Isatis.neo geostatistical software ;
  • Participates in Eramet working groups to develop and implement new solutions (digital transformation);
  • Presents complex information using data visualization tools and techniques ;

 

About you:

  • Minimum Master’s degree in Geology, Geostatistics, Mine Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science;
  • Minimum 2 years experience in programming (SQL, Python) and database management;
  • Experience in developing web based applications for field data collection;
  • Working knowledge of geological data acquisition methods (survey, drilling, geophysical methods, sampling) a strong advantage;
  • Skills in mapping and 3D-modelling software (Surpac, ArCGIS/QGIS, Surfer) an advantage;
  • Analytical thinker with an aptitude for problem solving;
  • Ability to visualize and present complex data in an accessible way;
  • Strong skills in MS Office suite (EXCEL, Powerpoint).  Working knowledge of Power BI an advantage.
  • Organized, systematic and meticulous with a strong attention to detail;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Comfortable working with multicultural and cross-disciplinary teams;
  • Passion for innovation and trying new things;
  • Above average English skills (written and verbal);
