HEAD OF DEPARTMENT IMPROVEMENT AND PROJECT ENGINEERING - M/F

 

Grande Côte Operations (GCO), a subsidiary of the Eramet group in Senegal, is active in the development, production and shipping of mineral sands, and more specifically Ilmenite, Zircon, Rutile and Leucoxene. Purpose of the position:

Our Technical Direction is looking for a Head of Department (HOD) Improvement and Project Engineering (M/F) on a permanent basis contract based in Diogo, Senegal with a rotational schedule status (5 weeks ON x 3 weeks OFF) for expats and residence basis status for locals.

The HOD Improvement and Project Engineering leads a team in driving sound engineering principles and projects management activities within the mining operations.

Collaborating closely with stakeholders, he/she involves identifying areas for improvement, developing project strategies, and overseeing their successful execution to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Head of Department of Improvement and Project Engineering is responsible for analyzing existing processes, defining project scopes, and creating comprehensive plans for project implementation in the mining industry. He/She utilizes deep technical knowledge of mining processes and equipment to design and implement innovative solutions while ensuring asset integrity and regulatory compliance.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Spearheading analysis of existing processes.
  • Defining project scopes.
  • Formulating comprehensive plans for project implementation.
  • Utilizing technical knowledge in mining processes and equipment.
  • Designing and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Prioritizing asset integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Managing resources effectively.
  • Mitigating risks.
  • Tracking progress throughout project lifecycles.
  • Collaborating with external engineering consultants, contractors, and procurement teams.
  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Managing multiple projects across various locations simultaneously.
  • Coordinating logistics for materials, equipment, and personnel.
  • Overcoming logistical challenges in remote areas.
  • Addressing engineering challenges with limited technical support.
  • Managing local contractors and providing guidance, training, and supervision to ensure adherence to technical standards, work safety, and quality.

 

About you :

 

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 12 years of professional experience in the mining industry with exposure to an international environment
  • Experience in working with External Engineering firm in EPCM, EPC and Lumpsum contractual scheme.
  • Experience in planning and implementing engineering projects for mid-tier organisations.
  • Experience of working effectively in a management team environment
  • Experience working in multicultural environment.
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and build effective relationships and networks.
  • Possesses strong training and mentoring skills with the ability to develop an effective team.
  • Demonstrates strong conceptual skills and capacity to develop lateral and practical solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in English essential; French preferred.
