Safety manager - W/M

Position Reference:  44778
Location:

Dunkerque, FR

Contract type:  Permanent
Job posting start date:  Jun 23, 2026

Comilog Dunkerque is part of Eramet's network of manganese alloy production sites, alongside Eramet Norway, Eramet Marietta and Comilog's Moanda Metallurgical Complex. These sites operate in synergy for greater efficiency: for example, the Dunkerque plant processes by-products from the Eramet Norway plants.

Comilog Dunkerque is committed to integrating into its local environment and continuously improving its industrial practices: reducing energy consumption, rainwater harvesting, and the processing and recycling of dust.

Job Description

Reporting to the Plant Director and a member of the site's Executive Committee, you are the Safety reference for COMILOG Dunkerque, a manganese alloy production site using electric arc furnaces, with approximately 80 employees.

In a context of evolving safety culture, your role is first and foremost that of a recognised field leader: you work directly with operational teams to embed safe behaviours on a daily basis.

You are also responsible for the site's Safety Management System, for regulatory compliance (ICPE classified facility) and for relations with external authorities (DREAL, Labour Inspectorate) on all matters related to occupational health, working conditions and safety.

You represent the site within the Safety competency groups of the Manganese Alloys Business Unit of the Eramet Group, working closely with your counterparts at the Norway and United States sites.

Responsibilities

  • Be regularly present on the shop floor to identify at-risk situations, interact with operators and build technical and human credibility with all teams.
  • Drive the transformation of the site's safety culture: behavioural safety visits, co-construction of rules with teams, deployment of a safety leadership approach with line managers.
  • Lead the reduction of the accident rate: personal analysis of accidents and near-misses, identification of root causes, monitoring of corrective action plans, lessons learnt shared with the site and the Group.
  • Master the site's specific risks: electrical and thermal energy, explosive atmospheres, heavy lifting, co-activity, confined spaces.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance (ICPE classified facility): management of the Single Document for Occupational Risk Assessment (DUERP), relations with the DREAL, the Labour Inspectorate and the CARSAT, planning, conduct and follow-up of emergency exercises.
  • Manage the Safety Management System (ISO 45001), in liaison with the site Quality Manager: maintain certification, conduct internal audits, address non-conformities, drive continuous process improvement.
  • Represent the site in the Safety competency groups of the Manganese Alloys Business Unit; contribute to the harmonisation of practices across Group sites.

Candidate Profile

Education

Master's degree (5-year programme): engineering school or specialised Master in Industrial Safety, QHSSE or equivalent.

Experience

  • More than 12 years of experience, including at least 5 years in a safety or HSE management role in heavy industry (pyrometallurgy, steelmaking, foundry, chemicals, cement, energy or comparable sector).
  • Demonstrated field experience in continuous-process production sites with identified major risks (thermal, explosive atmospheres, lifting, co-activity).
  • Practical knowledge of French regulations applicable to classified facilities (ICPE): relations with the DREAL, management of inspection visits, updating of regulatory files.
  • Active command of the ISO 45001 standard: conducting audits, maintaining certifications, managing a Safety Management System in real operating conditions.
  • Experience of cultural transformation in environments where safety maturity was still to be built.

Behavioural Skills

  • Strong field presence and ability to connect with operators; capacity to be heard and respected without relying on formal authority.
  • Managerial courage: ability to stop production, to challenge a dangerous decision, to enforce safety rules in a high-pressure environment.
  • Transparency and rigour in reporting to management and to the Group.
  • Strong coaching and influencing skills to bring line managers on board with a lasting safety dynamic.
  • Autonomy, accountability, results orientation.

Language

  • Operational English required for regular exchanges with Manganese Business Unit counterparts (Norway, United States).
