Job purpose

• Sonic Bay project aims at developing an industrial complex in Indonesia to produce and intermediate Nickel and Cobalt concentrate from the Weda Bay ore deposit (Halmahera Island). The project scope includes an ore preparation plant, an hydrometallurgical plant using High Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) technology to produce the concentrate, a power plant, a sulfuric acid plant and a tailings storage facility.

Since 2019, the project is led by Eramet, the leading French Mining and Metals company, in a joint venture with BASF, a major global chemical company. Following to a successful feasibility study finalized in Q1 2022, the project is now preparing to move to project execution in Q1 2023 and target a first production in 2026.

The Sonic Bay construction area manager HPAL is in charge to control the good execution of all the construction activities, to alert in case of slippage of the time schedule, to control the cost of the construction in his perimeter

He will work closely with HSE, quality, engineering, procurement, material management, time schedule to ensure that construction activities are properly organized and executed by EPC and Construction contractor.,

Key Project dimensions

• The project will rely on ore supply from Weda Bay, a world class nickel ore deposit developed by Eramet and its partner Tsingshan, and which is expected to become in the next years the biggest nickel mine in the world
• The project’s main engineering contractors will be China based and the project will be located in Halmahera Island in Indonesia, nearby the Indonesian Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) currently being developed by Chinese company Tsingshan.
• Sonic Bay project total CAPEX is expected to be around 2 Bn$ for a ~60 kt Ni pa operation.

Scope

• To manage the leveling of the site
  • for the main plant
  • for the temporary camps
  • for the temporary offices and laydowns areas if needed
• To manage all the geotechnical surveys and reports
• To manage the pilling activities (to be confirmed)
• To supervise all the earthwork activities under the responsibility of the EPC contractor(s)
• To manage the construction of the permanent camp
• To manage the construction of the roads outside of the perimeter of the EPC contractor(s)
• To supervise the construction of the roads, parkings, laydown, pounds done by the EPC contractors

• Preparation of the construction phase, to be done with the construction supervisors and QC and other departments

• To check the robustness of the time schedule in his perimeter
• To check the availability of the documentation from engineering
• To check the availability of the material and equipment
• To check the availability of the resources of the EPC and Construction companies (workforce, equipment for construction ….)
• To check the readiness of the layout of the site during the construction, including the laydown areas
• To check the availability of the plans for execution of the construction (plan for execution, risks analysis, lifting plans….)
• To participate to the weekly progress meeting organized by the EPC contractor
• To report to the construction manager about the readiness and to alert in case of danger
• To coach the supervisors and QC, to make sure they have understood their duty especially in term of HSE, quality control, progress measurement
• To cooperate actively with the other areas managers, QC manager, HSE manager, Time schedule manager, cost control
• To make sure all the environmental measures (drainage, pounds, controls….) are properly defined

Responsibilities: 

• Senior construction engineer
• Education and experience : earth works, leveling, geotechnical, road, buildings and utilities
• Experienced in term of contract management
• Has leadership experience 
• Very familiar with high level standard in term of HSE (including environmental measures during construction) and quality
• Ability to report and to identify the main difficulties and to propose solutions
• Good communication skills and diverse international experience, specifically in working with Western companies, Chinese engineering / construction contractors and equipment suppliers
• Fluent in English is a must
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment 
• Software: Microsoft pack office (Word, Excel...) Project planning tools (MS project, Primavera)
• Exposure to multicultural environment
• Software:  Microsoft software (Excel, power point, MS project ), autocad or equivalent
