Deputy Project Director Site & Construction

Purpose of the position : 

 

  • Sonic Bay project aims at developing an industrial complex in Indonesia to produce a mixed nickel and cobalt hydroxide product from the Weda Bay ore deposit, where Eramet already has an operation with Chinese partners.  The project scope is split between an HPAL plant to produce an intermediate Ni/Co concentrate, , a power plant, a sulfuric acid plant, a dry tailing storage facility and some utilities &  earthworks.
  • Within the owner’s project team, the SNB deputy Project Director - Site & Construction is responsible for leading the provision of effective Construction Management.
  • The role provides leadership, integration and management of Site processes and functions to improve the consistency and efficiency of project delivery and provide assurance to the Project Director of high performance in the execution of the Works.
  • The main engineering company and suppliers will be China based, the project execution in Indonesia 

 

Reporting to: Deputy Project Director Site  

 

Complexity of the position 

  • Large industrial project involving a complex execution strategy. The position is required to establish and lead the Site Team to ensure orderly execution of Construction Works on site. The Site Team provides the single source of truth for site permits, interface coordination, materials management, plant scheduling, rights-of way and Construction Quality Assurance.
  • Geographical fragmentation with teams based mainly in China, Western Europe, Indonesia. The position will require a high degree of flexibility and working with organizations with different cultures and under different time zones.

Responsibilities:

 

Project Planning/Set-up

  • To better understand the overall situation for defining the required projects with clear scope and justifications
  • Work together with the project team to define the budget, and define and optimize the required resources (human, technical, financial, etc.) to carry out the Site Construction
  • Establish and negotiate the Construction Execution Plans (schedule, required resources, time required to complete the various project stages, etc.) for each contract scope
  • Set up, coordinate and oversight the Construction teams, including the team members from subcontractors
  • Work out the project specifications and ensure their execution upon the agreed targets
  • Make checklist for the activities on project site to ensure the change management follows the right procedure
  • To better understand and monitor the milestones for achieving the project deliverables
  • To develop and setup the as-built ‘red-line mark-up’ of engineering documents for the project and ensure their maintenance throughout the construction activity by various contractors

 

Project Coordination/Steering 

  • Coordinate the activities of all the stakeholders involved in the Site (suppliers, subcontractors)
  • Manage relations with external stakeholders (client, suppliers, partners, the authorities, etc.)
  • Control and monitor the roll-out of the Construction activities and respects the contract in terms of the deadline, budget, quality, safety and profitability
  • Manage and anticipates Site and Construction risks
  • Draw up reports on Site activities
  • Participate in design studies and optimizes Construction solutions
  • Inform the line manager of any deviations from the Construction Plan and informs other members of the project team
  • To control the quality of Construction and ensure compliance with documented standards defined by the design team
  • To manage all Construction documentation, whether produced by external stakeholders or by the project team (mainly Engineering, Procurement process, Project Management documentation)
  • Coordinate the preparation of all documentation including MDR for handover to the Commissioning Team

 

Site Direction/Steering 
•    Lead the Site team to:

  • coordinate the activities of  the stakeholders involved in construction (contractors, suppliers, subcontractors)
  • manage relations with external stakeholders (client, suppliers, partners, the authorities, etc.)
  • manage and anticipates risks
  • draw up reports
  • Inform the line manager of any deviations from the contract and informs other members of the project team
  • assure the quality of construction and fabrication through inspections 
  • ensure compliance with quality documentation control standards defined by the project team


About you; 

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering, Civil works or equivalent
  • Relevant experience as a Construction Manager for minimum of 10 years in large project environment
  • Diverse international experience, specifically in working with multi-national teams 
  • Knowledge of Project Management Systems, Engineering, Construction and Documentation Control 
  • Fluent English is a must – basics of Chinese Mandarin as well (or at least experience working in Chinese construction projects)
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment (Asian and European)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

 

Preferred:

  • Project Management qualification.

 

Position Location:

  • Job will be based in Tanjung Ulie, Weda, North Maluku, Indonesia
  • A roster with 9 weeks / 3 weeks (or 6 weeks / 2 weeks if based in Indonesia)
