Purpose of the position:
In the framework of the Weda Bay project in Indonesia, reporting to the Geology Manager the jobholder takes a specialist technical role in the PT Weda Bay Nickel Geology team in order to:
Research, develop and deliver new methodologies and technologies for geostatistical modelling and mineral resource estimation.
Manage research and contribute to development projects within the WBN Geology Department aimed at testing and optimizing geostatistical modelling and resource estimation methodologies appropriate for the Weda Bay mineralization styles with the aim of continuous improvement and adding value to the mining chain.
Train, mentor and develop WBN Resource Geologists in the application of optimal geostatistical modelling and resource estimation techniques.
Responsibilities:
Enhance and develop WBN geostatistical modelling practices and application for resource estimation and mining:
- Lead the research and development of geostatistical and heterogeneity modelling and simulation methodologies applicable for the styles of mineralization.
- Develop and lead demonstration and validation trials in collaboration with Mine Engineering and Operations Teams.
- Lead the development and implementation of innovative solutions including machine learning for geological modelling and estimation.
- Contribute to projects in a technical capacity working within a cross-discipline team to explore options to increase value in the mining operations.
- Explore opportunities and the feasibility of improving extraction, beneficiation, sampling and reconciliation processes.
- Generate models for application in such integrated studies and evaluations.
- Conduct site and desktop trials.
- Analyze large and complex data sets and report on conclusions and recommendations.
- Evaluate results.
- Document methodologies and learnings and provide in house briefings.
- Participate and contribute to knowledge and technology transfer activities through training, mentoring and developing Indonesian national geologists, geostatisticians and mining engineers.
- Participate and contribute to ERAMET International Competencies Groups to enhance Group wide knowledge and improvement opportunities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with WBN Mining Division members, ERAMET Group peers and project participants.
About you:
- PhD in Geostatistics or Masters / Engineer Degree
- Strong research and development skills on technical and feasibility issues as they relate to geostatistical and spatial modelling of multiple attributes.
- Deep knowledge and competency in geostatistical and heterogeneity modelling and simulation methodologies.
- Strong working knowledge of (or at least exposure to) ISATIS software an advantage.
- Ability to participate in a multidisciplinary team of mining industry professionals to rapidly develop innovative solutions to add value to the mining chain.
- Ability to contribute to the formulation, planning and leading of complex projects and work programs.
- Excellent written, verbal and multimedia communication skills.
- Preparedness to work in a remote area of Indonesia on a Fly-In Fly-Out basis (accommodation is in a base camp).
