Mine Geotechnics Engineer M/W

Location:  Halmahera,Indonesia
Contract type:  Permanent

Purpose of the position:

In the frame of the Weda Bay project in Indonesia, the jobholder is part of the PT Weda Bay Mine Engineering team in order to:

 

  • Propose dimensioning and execute geotechnical and geophysical campaigns as well as lab testing for chemical, physical and geotechnical characterization of ground and product for tailings facilities.
  • Propose dimensioning and oversees the execution of dumps, slopes, pits for the mining operations.
  • Follow the implementation of slope stability solutions up to latest industry standards.
  • Follow the implementation of mitigation and/or corrective actions in the eventuality of slope stability incident.
  • Propose dimensioning and execute of water management systems, follow up the compliance of water management systems to environmental regulations.
  • Work in compliance international geotechnical standards and safety regulations.

 

Scope: JV between Tsingshan (majority shareholder) and Eramet, as well as PT Antam (10%). The company is opening (building road and infrastructure) and will be operating a mining concession (Contract Of Work) for a minimum 30 MWMT/year of Ni ore (up to 83 MWMT/year), while building and then operating a 30kt Ni contained NPI plant. Total investment for these operations is valued at 525 M$. The total workforce in the mining project will be above 10 000, including contractors.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise performance and safety KPI (employees and contractors).
  • Respect the environmental standards for the mining activity in liaison with the environmental department of Eramet.
  • Propose dimensioning and execute geotechnical and geophysical campaigns as well as lab testing for chemical, physical and geotechnical characterization of ground and product for tailings facilities.
  • Propose dimensioning and oversees the execution of dumps, slopes, pits for the mining operations.
  • Follow the implementation of slope stability solutions up to latest industry standards.
  • Follow the implementation of mitigation and/or corrective actions in the eventuality of slope stability incident.
  • Propose dimensioning and execute of water management systems, follow up the compliance of water management systems to environmental regulations.
  • Work in compliance international geotechnical standards and safety regulations.

 

About you:

  • Master’s degree in mining engineering, geotechnics or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mine engineering geotechnics or related discipline.
  • Experience conducting geotechnical, environment and hydrology studies in a mine context.
  • Experience with dimensioning and or execution of large tailing facilities.
