Main Purpose of the Position
Member of the EMI Management team, the maintenance manager contributes to the strategy of the plant and its execution through her/his knowledge and management.
The primary role of this position is the safe management of maintenance support and plant services functions for EMI.
EMI is a heavy industry facility operating 24/7, 365 days per year with a combination of mobile equipment, raw material handling, furnaces and converters, producing more than 100,000 thousand tons of liquid metal every year.
The Maintenance Manager and team, in close cooperation with the operations, leads all the maintenance crafts (mechanics, mobile equipment mechanics, metal workers, electricians), develops and manages maintenance programs, administers the CMMS/ERP, organizes and contributes to risk cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode analysis, develops and manages reliability programs, and proposes improvement investment opportunities to increase plant capacity, cost optimization, and safe and compliant activities.
EMI is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Maintenance Manager to oversee and manage the maintenance operations within our alloys manufacturing facility. This role is essential in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of all machinery, equipment, and systems used in the production of alloys. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maintenance management, industrial equipment, and alloy manufacturing processes, with a focus on reducing downtime, improving productivity, and maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Major Responsibilities/Outputs
- Maintenance Strategy: Develop and implement effective maintenance strategies, programs, and schedules to ensure the smooth running or all machinery and equipment.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of maintenance supervisors and technicians that includes 4 supervisors and 30 technicians, ensuring proper training and motivation to perform roles efficiently.
- Preventative Maintenance: Oversee the planning and execution of preventative and predictive maintenance to reduce the occurrence of unplanned breakdowns.
- Troubleshooting and Repairs: Quickly identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic failures, and take appropriate corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Equipment Optimization: Analyze machinery performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize the performance and lifespan of equipment.
- Budget Management: Manage the maintenance department’s budget, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and cost effectively. Track expenditures and report on maintenance-related costs.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations. Promote a culture of safety withing the maintenance team and across the facility.
- Inventory Management: Maintain adequate inventory levels of spare parts, tools, and materials necessary for maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with Production: Work closely with production and engineering teams to identify and address maintenance issues that may affect production schedules and overall plant efficiency.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment histories, and repair logs. Provide regular reports to senior management on maintenance performance and KPI’s.
- Emergency Response: Be on-call as needed to handle emergency maintenance situations and ensure that production is back online as quickly as possible.
- Capital Improvement Oversight: Contribute to capital improvement projects, from initial planning and budgeting through execution and completion.
- Maintenance Optimization: Identify and prioritize maintenance-related capital improvement needs in alignment with plant operations. Lead initiatives to enhance the performance, reliability, and lifecycle of equipment and machinery.
- Continuous Improvement: Implement and monitor continuous improvement initiatives in the maintenance and capital projects processes, ensuring the plant operates efficiently and effectively with minimal downtime.
Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a maintenance management role, preferably within the alloys or manufacturing industry.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and equipment.
- Proven experience with preventative maintenance systems and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Exceptional leadership skills with experience managing teams and collaborating with cross-functional departments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues under pressure.
- Self-motivation and good organizational skills.
- Good working knowledge of union craft trades and work practices.
- Familiarity with OSHA 1910 General Industry safety guidelines.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
