Job Description:

The Biodiversity Engineer (M/F) contributes to defining and ensuring compliance with policies, standards, and regulations related to prevention and protection, in order to support environmental, energy, and climate performance. Within their scope related to biodiversity, they ensure the deployment of these policies and oversee their implementation. They provide technical expertise to all teams within their area of responsibility.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the deployment of SLN policies: support their dissemination and the implementation of action plans related to safety, environment, energy, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Support the sustainability of operating permits and the expansion of mining activities through the development and implementation of the best available environmental practices.
  • Conduct or coordinate the studies required for the deployment of mining projects, from the provision of environmental data to the validation of deliverables.
  • Conduct or coordinate the studies and fieldwork (e.g., harvesting, planting, monitoring) required under the terms of regulatory permits, ensuring consideration of New Caledonia's natural environment.
  • Participate in defining and ensuring compliance with biodiversity prevention and protection policies, standards, and regulations to enhance environmental performance.
  • Contribute to the deployment, implementation, and promotion of environmental policies and strategies within your area of expertise.
  • Support mining sites in understanding and implementing regulatory requirements and oversee environmental monitoring of relevant ecosystems.
  • Ensure the acquisition, interpretation, and validation of results (impact assessments, performance indicators) to communicate them both internally and externally.
  • Contribute to the identification and analysis of environmental issues related to mining projects.
  • Ensure the integration of the Avoid Reduce Compensate (ERC) sequence by aligning baseline environmental data with mining project plans.

 

About you:

Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification, with a specialization in Ecology and Natural Habitat Management, and have at least 3 years of experience in biodiversity-related roles. You also demonstrate:

  • Full proficiency in environmental impact assessment processes and in applying the Avoid – Reduce – Compensate (ERC) framework.
  • Advanced knowledge of New Caledonia’s terrestrial fauna and associated conservation challenges.
  • Strong command of environmental regulations currently in force in New Caledonia.
  • Proficiency in GIS tools (e.g., QGIS) and databases (e.g., MS Access).
  • Fluency in English would be a plus.
