Mining Tenure Optimization Engineer - W/M

Job Description:

 

Reporting to the department in charge of mining tenure optimization, the Mining Tenure Optimization Engineer plays an active role in the management, rationalization and valorization of SLN’s mining assets.

In this role, the Engineer works across the entire mining tenure perimeter to ensure optimal and sustainable management of mineral resources, in line with the company’s overall strategy, the applicable regulatory framework, and environmental and social challenges.

The position is fully aligned with SLN’s responsible mining approach, combining technical performance, regulatory compliance, people safety and environmental protection.

 

This position is offered under a project-based permanent contract (CDI à durée de chantier), linked to SLN’s mining tenure optimization projects.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Health & Safety

  • Actively contribute to the promotion and implementation of health and safety practices within the department.
  • Participate in awareness-raising initiatives, training sessions and deployment of best practices to ensure a safe working environment in compliance with applicable standards.

 

Mining Tenure Optimization

  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the department’s working methodologies.
  • Produce data, analyses and technical studies required for mining tenure optimization.
  • Prepare and/or verify the compliance of all administrative and regulatory files related to the mining tenure (retention, relinquishment, consolidation, etc.), in accordance with deadlines.
  • Contribute to communication initiatives related to mining tenure optimization and participate in the organization and deployment of associated exploration or investigation campaigns.
  • Participate in updating and adjusting the mining asset management and recognition strategy, in line with changes in the legal and regulatory framework, increased geological knowledge, updated mine plans, and evolving technical, environmental and risk constraints.

  • Actively participate in departmental organizational routines.
  • Ensure proper monitoring and reporting of assigned activities.
  • Contribute more broadly to the life of the department and to the achievement of collective objectives.

 

 

Your Profile:

 

  • Engineering degree or equivalent university qualification in Mining, Geology or Environmental Engineering.
  • Initial professional experience of at least 1–2 years in a mining environment, New Caledonian nickel geology and/or mining permitting.
  • Good understanding of the Mining Code and regulations applicable to the sector.
  • Good knowledge of mining processes.
  • Skills in geological modeling and resource estimation.
  • Strong competencies in mining environmental topics: water management, erosion assessment, rehabilitation planning, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Proficiency in IT tools and specialized software: Surpac, Leapfrog, GIS (QGIS), Python, etc.
  • Strong analytical, synthesis and report-writing skills.
  • Personal qualities: rigor, proactivity, sense of responsibility and exemplary professional conduct.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills and active listening abilities.
