Job description:

 

Reporting to the Director of Safety, Railway Safety and Security, the Workplace Safety Coordinator defines, deploys and manages the workplace safety, occupational risk prevention, fire safety, emergency response and crisis management policy across all SETRAG sites, facilities, industrial and administrative activities.

The role aims to protect employees and contractors, sustainably reduce accidents and embed a demanding, shared and operational safety culture throughout the company.

This position operates within a complex and high-stakes environment, combining an extended industrial and railway footprint, a wide variety of occupational risks, a significant number of contractors with varying levels of safety maturity, and the need to reconcile production requirements, social constraints and high safety standards.

The incumbent manages approximately 50 employees and coordinates teams dedicated to prevention, safety management systems, infrastructure and project safety, as well as hygiene, emergency response and fire safety.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Workplace safety and health policy management

 

• Define and implement the workplace safety and health policy in accordance with local regulatory requirements and Group standards.

• Manage the workplace safety management system (HSE) and ensure its effectiveness across the SETRAG perimeter.

• Ensure regulatory compliance in matters of safety, health and working conditions.

• Monitor regulatory developments and contribute to the continuous improvement of safety standards, procedures and practices.

 

Occupational and industrial risk prevention

 

• Drive occupational risk prevention initiatives for employees, contractors and partners operating on SETRAG sites.

• Identify, assess and prioritize risks related to the company’s industrial, railway and administrative activities.

• Oversee the monitoring of accidents, incidents and near misses, as well as the related investigations.

• Define and monitor corrective and preventive action plans to reduce accident frequency and strengthen the prevention culture.

 

Fire safety, emergency response and crisis management

 

• Define and manage the fire prevention and industrial risk management policy.

• Structure, maintain and test emergency response and crisis management plans through drills, training sessions and simulations.

• Lead and develop fire response and emergency intervention teams.

• Ensure the organization is prepared to respond to emergencies with major human, industrial or environmental impacts.

 

Management, coordination and safety culture

 

• Lead, motivate and develop a team of approximately 50 employees.

• Unite teams around shared objectives of prevention, risk control and operational excellence.

• Promote cross-functional collaboration with operational and support departments to integrate safety into daily practices.

• Actively contribute to the improvement of SETRAG’s safety and prevention culture.

 

External relations and compliance

 

• Act as the interface with the Labour Inspectorate, competent authorities and external partners.

• Coordinate exchanges with stakeholders on safety, prevention, emergency response and compliance matters.

• Produce the reporting, indicators and analyses required to monitor safety performance.

 

Your profile:

 

 

Education & Experience

 

• Higher education degree, ideally engineering or equivalent.

• At least 10 years of confirmed experience in workplace safety, industrial risk prevention and HSE management in an industrial environment.

• Significant experience in managing operational teams.

• Experience in a railway, multisite industrial or high-safety-risk environment would be an advantage.

 

Technical Skills

 

• Strong knowledge of HSE management systems and regulatory requirements related to health, safety and working conditions.

• Solid expertise in industrial risk prevention, fire safety, emergency response and crisis management.

• Ability to conduct risk assessments, accident investigations, audits, inspections and action plans.

• Ability to manage safety indicators, structure reporting and support continuous improvement.

• Fluency in French and good understanding of English.

Assignments and travel:

 

 

  • The position is based in Libreville.
  • Regular travel along the Transgabonais railway line is to be expected.
  • International travel may be required for experience-sharing initiatives, institutional meetings or visits to the Group’s headquarters in Paris.
