Group Insurance Manager - W/M
Paris, FR
Job Description
Eramet is looking for a Group Insurance Manager to join the newly created Risk & Insurance (R&I) Department, reporting directly to the Head of R&I. This role is both operational and strategic: the Group Insurance Manager is fully responsible for the Group's insurance coverage strategy (~€20M in annual premiums), working in close alignment with the risk management function.
In a context of transformation, the central challenge is to shift the Group's insurance approach: moving from a cost-driven policy management model to an integrated risk prevention and mitigation tool, aligned with the Group's risk mapping. The role sits at the intersection of the risk teams, operations, and market partners (insurers, reinsurers, brokers).
The scope covers heavy industrial assets across four continents (open-pit mines, metallurgical plants, railway infrastructure, chemical facilities) in high-risk geographies: Gabon, Senegal, Indonesia, Argentina, and New Caledonia. The Group Insurance Manager leverages the Group's reinsurance captive (ERAS, Luxembourg) and manages an experienced Insurance Officer.
Responsibilities
1. Insurance Strategy & Risk Management
- Define and evolve the insurance coverage strategy in line with the Group's risk mapping and mitigation priorities.
- Identify uninsured or underinsured risks and propose appropriate solutions (new policies, coverage adjustments, retention through the ERAS captive).
- Drive the annual renewal programme, incorporating data from risk teams, operations, and insurer audits.
- Manage and optimise the ERAS reinsurance captive (retention levels, parametric insurance, reserves); serve as captive administrator.
- Actively contribute to the ERM framework by bringing the risk transfer dimension.
2. Insurance Programme Management (~€20M in premiums)
- Oversee all lines of coverage: property damage/business interruption (PD/BI), general liability, environmental liability, marine cargo, cyber, construction, medical, projects, etc.
- Lead negotiations with insurers and reinsurers, leveraging the Group's prevention and mitigation actions, in close collaboration with brokers.
- Ensure regulatory compliance of programmes across all Group locations (Gabon, Senegal, Argentina, Norway, etc.).
3. Major Claims Management
- Manage significant claims from opening to closure: file preparation, expert liaison, negotiation, and cash collection.
- Monitor indemnity collection performance across all geographies, including the most complex local markets.
- Analyse claims (Eramet and peers) to draw lessons in terms of coverage and prevention actions.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & External Relations
- Foster relationships with insurers, brokers, experts, and local correspondents in a long-term partnership approach.
- Support the upskilling of local teams and insurance/risk correspondents on insurance-related matters.
- Contribute to ESG/CSRD/DEU reporting on the risk and insurance dimension.
- Manage the Insurance Officer responsible for operational and budgetary aspects.
Profile
Education & Experience
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in law, finance, engineering, business, or a specialised insurance programme.
- Minimum 10 years of insurance experience, gained in an international industrial company and/or in broking with a significant heavy industry portfolio.
- Cross-line experience across multiple coverage lines: property damage, liability, construction, marine cargo, cyber, etc.
- Knowledge of the French market is essential. Exposure to the London market or the sector-specific market is a plus.
Skills & Qualities
- Ability to think in terms of risk mitigation, beyond pure policy management: understanding the underlying risk to size coverage appropriately.
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to build lasting, trust-based relationships with insurers and brokers.
- Performance-oriented: claims collection monitoring, prevention plan tracking, market condition optimisation.
- Comfortable engaging with both field operations teams and senior decision-makers.
- Strong analytical and writing skills; autonomous and open to self-questioning.
- Fluent English is essential. French proficiency is highly valued.
