Senior Chartering Manager W/M
Paris, FR
Job Description:
As Senior Chartering Manager, you will drive the full commercial chartering cycle across Capesize and Supramax segments from origination to voyage execution. You will lead high-value negotiations, identify value-creation opportunities, and continuously optimize freight cost performance.
You will also serve as a senior commercial reference within the team, contributing to the development of junior staff and strengthening Eramet's profile with shipowners, operators, and brokers across Asia.
Responsibilities:
- Define and execute chartering strategies across Capesize and Supramax segments, setting clear COA vs. spot coverage targets by corridor and tenor, in alignment with the Group's commercial and procurement plans.
- Originate and negotiate structured deals (index-linked COAs, optionality-rich contracts), run formal RFPs with rigorous governance, and manage complex charter party engineering (CP terms, rider clauses, performance warranties and remedies).
- Optimize freight economics by identifying physical arbitrage and triangulation opportunities, leveraging scenario and sensitivity analysis (freight, bunkers, congestion, seasonality) to guide coverage decisions and maximize TCE outperformance.
- Lead the West Africa corridor strategy, embedding seasonal, port, and operational constraints into commercial terms, while developing and maintaining a top-tier network of shipowners, operators, and brokers across Asia and Atlantic basins.
- Embed ESG and regulatory requirements into deal design, including EU ETS cost pass-through mechanisms, CII/EEXI constraints, bunker choices, and environmental performance clauses.
- Coordinate voyage execution and compliance with Operations teams (weather routing, speed/consumption, claims management) and manage counterparty due diligence (vetting, sanctions, KYC/ABAC screening).
- Mentor junior charterers and develop team capabilities through structured coaching, formalized playbooks, and a maintained clause library; deputize for the Team Leader when required.
Your profil :
- Education: Master's degree in international business, logistics, maritime law, finance, or a related field
- Experience: 15+ years in dry bulk chartering with a proven fixture track record across Capesize and Supramax segments
- Demonstrable West Africa corridor experience (Gabon, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana) is a strong plus
- Experience with Eramet-related commodities (manganese ore, alloys, ilmenite) will be valued
- Strong proficiency with voyage calculation tools, maritime operations management systems, and advanced Excel; comfortable with BI dashboards
- Solid grasp of freight indices, FFAs/derivatives, and maritime regulations (IMO 2020, CII/EEXI, EU ETS)
- Strong negotiation capability on complex contractual terms
- Calm under pressure, decisive, and an excellent communicator in multicultural environments
- Languages: Fluent English required; French is a plus
- Mobility: Regional and international travel required (Asia, West Africa, Europe); flexibility for out-of-hours market windows and time-zone coverage
