Sonic Bay project aims at developing an industrial complex in Indonesia to produce and intermediate Nickel and Cobalt concentrate from the Weda Bay ore deposit (Halmahera Island). The project scope includes an ore preparation plant, an hydrometallurgical plant using High Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) technology to produce the concentrate, a power plant, a sulfuric acid plant and a tailings storage facility
Key Dimensions:
- The project will rely on ore supply from Weda Bay, a world class nickel ore deposit developed by Eramet and its partner Tsinghan, and which is expected to become in the next years the biggest nickel mine in the world
- The project’s main engineering contractors will be China based and the project will be located on Halmahera Island in Indonesia, nearby the Indonesian Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) currently being developed by Chinese company Tsingshan.
- Sonic Bay project total CAPEX is expected to be around 2 Bn$ for a ~60 kt Ni pa operation.
Process review and optimization
- Liaise with the Project Principal Process Engineer to take ownership of process modeling conducted during the feasibility phase.
- Identify, with the Principal Process Manager, the area managers and consultants requirements for complementary modeling to be implemented before and during project execution to ensure safe and quick plant ramp-up, specially by identifying any gap in the model
- Maintain the process model with the latest process design criteria
- Conduct modeling sensitivity studies for trade-off purpose
- Benchmark modeling for similar projects and operations
Detailed design
- Review / comment Engineering heat and mass balance
- Review / comment Engineering utility balance
- Conduct dynamic modeling
Operations
- Participate in the development of process simulation for plant operation
Project controls
- Take ownership of the risks identified in his area of responsibility and ensure risk mitigation plans are up to date
Main Responsibilities:
Essential
- Chemical Engineer with at least 2 years of proven experience either in process modeling in chemical industries or in hydrometallurgical process
- Good communication skills and diverse international experience
- Fluent in English is a must
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment (China, Indonesia, France);
- Software: Microsoft pack office (Word, Excel..),
- Software: Modeling (Syscad, Metsim or Ideas)
Preferred
- Chinese mandarin
- Python
Position Location :
- Job will initially be based in the Engineering contractor office located in Beijing (China) before moving progressively to Weda Bay project site in Indonesia for plant commissioning and ramp-up.
- While based in China, the position will involve occasional domestic (China) and international business trip
