Purpose of the position:
Eramine South America S.A. is in the process of developing a Lithium Project to extract Lithium from natural brines contained in salars, located in the Andes mountains in the Province of Salta in Northern Argentina. The Centenario Lithium project consists in recovering deep brines and extracting the lithium content to manufacture a lithium carbonate (LCE) destined for the electric vehicle battery market. The extraction and purification of lithium will be done through an innovative process developed mainly by Eramet.
The Phase I of development is to build and put into production a plant having capacity of 24kt of LCE/annum on the site at La Puna.
A Phase II is now launched and will consist in doubling the capacity of production.
The role of business in the twenty-first century has changed and the expectations of stakeholders such as communities, civil society, business partners or investors are raising expectations. Companies must obtain and maintain legal as well as social authorization to operate by responding to these requests.
The Environment & Permitting Manager Li Project Phase II is responsible for maintaining the sustainable development in all operations, including the creation of environmental value and support for responsible mining. He/She is responsible to obtain relevant permits in time.
The project capital cost of the first phase is estimated at around 700 MUSD, the engineering is done at 70% and the construction will start soon. Startup is foreseen in early 2024
The second phase that would be developed from China is just starting and would be around 600 MUSD
The Environment & Permitting Manager Li Project Phase II reports directly to the Deputy Project Manager Phase II of the project. The work takes place in Salta in Argentina.
Responsibilities:
Privileged interlocutor for stakeholders related to the Argentinian site and its development projects, she/he is the guarantor of compliance with environmental standards (regulations and Eramet standards).
He/she manages the environmental studies related to the proposed sites, and the applications for authorizations to operate. In coordination with Eramet's legal services, she/he manages the legal aspects related to obtaining and maintaining operating permits and is the guarantor of compliance with the schedule of his/her activity in line with the project schedule.
As part of her/his missions, the Environment and Permitting Manager will be required to:
- Ensure the implementation of environmental regulatory obligations and guarantee the robustness of environmental risk control approaches
- Ensure the integration of environmental factors at the highest level in projects and industrial practices with a view to obtaining permits, financing, and international acceptability; in particular, deploy Eramet's best practice standards and the IRMA standard’s environmental chapters
- Guarantee the integration of Eramet's best practices and the IRMA standard’s environmental chapters in line with the timing of projects
- Be a privileged interlocutor for national and international stakeholders on environmental issues
- Promote Eramet's best practices and the IRMA standard as a reference standard in Argentina that can be integrated into environmental regulatory obligations
- Carry out the project management of environmental studies and manage the implementation of the environmental impact management plan
- Manage the monitoring/evaluation reports of all environmental actions, integrating regulatory indicators, and indicators set up with Eramet
- Assist the management and teams of the subsidiaries to create and implement the local and global environmental roadmaps in line with the Group’s roadmaps
About you:
Requested skills include:
- Graduated level specialized in Environment / Environmental Law or similar
- Proven experience of minimum 15 years in permitting practice and operating rights in Argentina
- Knowledge of the challenges and impacts of the Mining & Metallurgy extractive sector
- Strong belief in the environment and sustainable development
- Experience in dialogue with Argentinian environmental authorities
- Spanish native speaker / Good level of English (oral and written) / notions of Mandarin Chinese would be a nice addition (not a requirement)
