In Argentina, Eramet is developing one of the world’s largest lithium deposits through its subsidiary Eramine. Operations are under way at the heart of the Centenario-Ratones “salar” (salt flat), located at an altitude of 3,800 metres in the province of Salta.

Purpose of the position:

The Health and Safety Director will lead two dedicated teams for both operations and projects, ensuring that Eramine's management systems are effectively implemented, operated, monitored, and reviewed.

The goal is to achieve a safe working environment without incidents, injuries, or property damage while providing comprehensive HS support to the entire organization, including employees and contractors.

Location: Salta Offices, Argentina (position requires working in Salta)

Reports to: CEO

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the HS team in alignment with ethical behaviors and company values of people, quality, and growth.
  • Implement and monitor HS Management System, Safe Work Plans, and Procedures.
  • Promote HS awareness and accountability within the management team.
  • Ensure compliance with HS policies, plans, and procedures, including contractor activities.
  • Identify and mitigate hazards and risks associated with company and contractor activities.
  • Review and communicate HS statistics and reports.
  • Develop and test emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Ensure availability of medical, first aid, and occupational health facilities.
  • Implement and execute the HS Training Plan.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop safety procedures to address identified risks.
  • Oversee contractor compliance with HS plans and contractual terms.
  • Follow up on accident investigations, ensuring preventive measures are communicated and implemented.
  • Promote lessons learned and HS information exchange within the group.
  • Ensure the HS team is well-trained, motivated, and resourced.

 

 Key challenges:

  • Implement and audit the company’s HS Systems in line with corporate guidelines.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with safety requirements.
  • Participate in and ensure the quality of accident/incident investigations.
  • Update safety system procedures to reflect changes in legislation and company standards.
  • Organize and participate in regular audits to verify compliance and suggest improvements.
  • Conduct safety audits for subcontractors and participate in HAZOP meetings.
  • Provide safety support and advice, including training and procedural preparation for new contracts.

 

 

About you :

  • Engineering degree or equivalent with additional qualifications in HS and Safety Management Systems.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Health and Safety, particularly in mining activities and processing plants.
  • Experience in geological environments and remote locations.
  • Proficiency in developing, documenting, implementing, and auditing comprehensive HS management systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach.
  • Extensive experience working with contractors to create successful HS programs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HS legislation and quality assurance practices.
  • Skilled in HAZOPS and HAZIDS facilitation, accident investigation, and root cause analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of technological applications in e-tools.
