A subsidiary of the Compagnie Minière de l’Ogooué (Comilog), the Société d’Exploitation du Transgabonais (Setrag) is the concession holder of the railway line connecting Owendo to Franceville. As a true catalyst for the country’s economic development, the Transgabonais is undergoing an ambitious Rehabilitation Program led by the State and Setrag. As one of the highest-rated companies in Gabon, Setrag aims to become a benchmark for rail transport in Africa by relying on an efficient and socially responsible model.

With a workforce of over 1,700 employees, 24 stations across 5 provinces, and more than 38 years of experience, Setrag transports nearly 330,000 passengers per year and over 10 million tons of freight—90% of which is mineral cargo.

 

 

Job Description:

Reporting to the General Manager of SETRAG and to the Group Security Director of Eramet, the Director of Safety, Railway Safety and Security is a member of the extended Executive Committee.

He or she is responsible for defining, deploying and overseeing all safety and security policies across the company, through an integrated and consistent approach covering the following areas:

  • Railway Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
  • Industrial and fire risk prevention
  • Security of people, train operations, sites and sensitive information
  • Railway policing and guarding arrangements

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Define and implement the overall safety and security policy in alignment with Eramet Group standards
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of the railway system and industrial activities; maintain the Railway Safety Management System (SMS) and the General Safety Regulations (RGS)
  • Drive the prevention of occupational, industrial and fire-related risks
  • Define and lead the security policy covering train operations, sites, assets and personnel
  • Structure and maintain emergency response and crisis management plans; play a central role within the crisis management team
  • Manage, upskill and develop the safety and security teams (approximately 126 employees)
  • Represent SETRAG before Gabonese and international regulatory and institutional authorities

 

Your Profile:

 

Education: Engineering degree or equivalent Master's level qualification (Bac+5)

Experience:

  • At least 15 to 20 years of experience in railway safety, industrial safety, HSE management or security of critical infrastructure
  • Proven experience in managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis management and dealings with regulatory authorities
  • Experience in an international environment, particularly in Africa, is a significant advantage

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in SMS and HSE management systems
  • Knowledge of railway and industrial regulatory frameworks
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to make decisions in complex, high-pressure environments

Personal Qualities:

  • Strong leadership and ability to influence at executive level
  • Rigour, strategic thinking and composure under pressure
  • Strong coaching and skills development abilities
  • Ability to unite multidisciplinary teams in a multicultural context
